Agree with BabaYaga ...
I might add that individuals will come and go during our life who make us feel better about ourselves. We will assign them a certain unique designation yet, to me, a soul mate amounts to the best I can attract at the time. If the day comes when either or both in a relationship change the "made in heaven" union can become "bonds of hell." This is seen among households wher one is a JW and the other is not.

Why don't you just take it like a man?
by AK - Jeff inin a recent thread, i was basically called out in this manner.. here is part of the quote:.
mean no disrespect with the following but i have to ask, when you disassociated yourself what did you think would happen?
did you expect witnesses to suddenly change to accommodate you?

Anger is fine until it affects ones health and longevity. I have too often seen early death as regards those emotionally upset for complaints which could have been concluded. Whichever position works best, to ignor past abuse or to periodically highlight same, each of us will benefit or pay for our own choice. He/she who lives longest wins!
One point of confusion: It has been mentioned in several posts that the organization is counting on silence from past members ... yet, is it not our unproclaimed purpose to silence the WBTS by use of protest and education? If not, why are so many offended by words that are spoken by current members. Should we simply not consider the source and move on?

do we all go to bed every night of our lives detached for the human experience at a level the vast majority take for granted and enjoy everyday?
i sometimes think my inability to love was switched off at such a young age i am incapable of letting anyone else in.

Why were you baptized?
by bluecanary ininspired by another thread.. i was baptized at 12 years old.
i had a cousin, two years older than me, who was prettier, more outgoing and more popular in the hall than i was.
i couldn't beat her at any of that stuff, but i figured i could be a better jw than she was.

I was concerned with pleasing others ... never gave God a thought.

Because I was more concerned about pleasing others than I was about my own emotional and mental health.

WT Society Makes JW's Feel Bad about Themselves - No Self Worth
by flipper ini have noticed this a lot in attitudes of witness relatives i've talked with over the last few years , as well as other former witness friends i have talked to.
many witnesses feel bad about themselves due to having it drilled into them that we are all " sinners " who allegedly inherited " sin and imperfection " from adam and eve .
that essentially humans are " born dead " or in a " dying " condition due to alleged " inherited sin " .

The problem I have experienced is that until one COMPLETELY severs all ties with those who have the mental mindset of Adamic sin, we are unable to funtion properly in the outside world due to the constant suggestion by those in our environment, no matter how subtle, that we are not in God's favor. Not everyone can break away cleanly from their support group and therefore low self-esteem can become life-long. To use their words: "You can not serve two masters. You will grow to hate one or the other." Putting on an act of tolerance toward those one deplores can only lead to a feeling of weakness and fraud which, in turn, continues the cycle of self-deprecation.
